What makes you enthusiastic about life?
It’s an interesting question. And it’s one Author Britt Skrabanek has been asking folks as part of a monthly series she’s been doing.
Last month, Britt asked me to take part and here’s my answer to “What makes you enthusiastic about life?”: The Life Enthusiast Chronicles with Stan.
And while you’re there, make sure you check out her books. Britt is a lovely writer and fantastic person! I’d love nothing more than if you bought one of her books (if it interests you), or if they don’t, file them away in your mind and tell a friend that might be interested in them.
Keep the faith,
Stan R. Mitchell
About me: I’m a full-time, action-fiction author with books similar to Vince Flynn, Stephen Hunter, and Tom Clancy. I’m also a prior infantry Marine with Combat Action Ribbon, and a guy who spent 10+ years writing every day in the newspaper business. Please consider subscribing for email alerts — I mostly post about things that either motivate or inspire you.
P.S. You should really consider buying this book: The Shaolin Workout: 28 Days to Transforming Your Body and Soul the Warrior’s Way. It’s absolutely changed my life for the better.
“…why not consider a competitive spirit?”
I would like to carve (tattoo?) that on a whole bunch of foreheads. The number of people just drifting through life, taking whatever it hands you, is appalling.
For a real rant, we could talk about the whole “everyone gets a trophy” mindset…but it’s not beer o’clock yet, so I don’t want to go there.
Get off your butt and perform better than others. What a concept.
Good post you made over there.
Semper Fidelis!

Hah! Yeah, the whole “everyone gets a trophy” mindset is a rant that needs to be made more. Not that we should be unkind to kids, but we do them a dis-service by teaching them to expect a trophy.
As everyone eventually learns, once you hit adulthood, a whole new reality that doesn’t pass out trophies comes into your world.
S/F,
Stan

What makes me enthusiastic about life? Is life, and the wonder of it all.

Thanks so much for having me, Britt!!! I hope my sort-of, non-yoga like words didn’t turn folks off too bad! (Now, back to balance in your life for your blog!) : )

Enthusiasm? Stan, It’s Life. Without it we wouldn’t be alive! Beats everything hands down. Every morning is a blessing (even if I don’t want to “hop” out of bed). I get a chance to look at the woods and marvel at the beauty. The squirrels, the deer, the wrens making a nest in my hanging plant. The cats sitting nicely, waiting for me to feed them. The sunshine, the rain, the hail. The music. I still wonder at the miracle that brought various pieces of DNA together to make me. The chances of that are a million to one, but here I am. Wowser.

I think that a certain person of the other gender living on another continent is probably your answer for now… : )
And should that prove not to be the case, answer “b” is late-night phone calls with another crazy vet, whose far below your rank… lol
