I obviously believe there’s no more important (or better book) to read that the Bible. But most people have no idea where to begin. Or what version to read.
I suggest the NLT version (New Living Translation). It’s the easiest to read, although the NIV is probably more popular (New International Version). It’s also a great version.
If you have no idea where to start, I suggest you start with the book of John. Begin reading there, just a chapter or two at a time, and follow it by reading one chapter in Psalms and one chapter in Proverbs. Try to do that every day.
Once you finish John, move to the other three Gospels, while continuing to read in Psalms and Proverbs. Here’s a bit about all six books that you want to start with, which I’ve just copied from the web.
- The Gospels: The Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John tell the story of Jesus Christ’s life, teachings, and miracles. They can help you get to know Jesus and grow closer to him.
- The Book of Psalms: This book is considered the Bible’s prayer book, so you can start by praying a Psalm each day. For example, you could start with Psalm 1 on the first of the month and Psalm 31 on the 31st.
- The Book of Proverbs: This book is a collection of wisdom from different generations that describes God’s wisdom and how it applies to life on Earth.
I think if you’ll give those books a fair read, you’ll feel God begin to speak to you. Or, you can visit a church near you! I can guarantee you will be warmly welcomed. (But I know visiting a church can be scary, so read the Bible in the comfort of your home.)
You don’t even have to buy one!!
There are free apps! Or, you can read it from the web! My favorite version is the YouVersion/Bible.com!
