The latest news on the Nick Woods series

Hey guys!

Hope everyone is doing well! Wanted to give you a quick update on the Nick Woods series. I’m nearly finished writing the next book, which would be the fourth in the series.

Nick and the members of Shield, Safeguard, and Shelter (S3) deploy to Nigeria to tangle with Boko Haram in the fourth installment of the series. (For those who don’t know about Boko Haram, the group “has killed 20,000 and displaced 2.3 million,” according to Wikipedia. You may know them best for all the young girls they’ve kidnapped, which even garnered the attention of our First Lady.)

The working title is “Nigerian Fire,” which should tie in fairly nicely with the titles “Afghan Storm” and “Mexican Heat.” Having said that, we’re still brainstorming, so if you have something better, please share it!!

Sold Out_CoverAnd for goodness’ sake, if you haven’t started the Nick Woods series, you seriously need to start here: “Sold Out.” Like, today.

Matter of fact, if you have any doubts about whether you’ll enjoy the story, you can click the image of the book cover at left and go to a really cool embedded preview of the book, where you can read an extended sample and adjust font size to make it easier to read.

As of the last time I checked, “Sold Out” has earned more than 320 reviews and spent most of its life in the Top 100 on Amazon, alongside the likes of Vince Flynn and Brad Thor. I know I’m biased, but I really think you’ll enjoy it and the rest of the series, if you’re a new subscriber and haven’t tried it.

That’s it from here! Can’t wait to get you the next book before too long. (And, no, I’m not saying when! lol. Have played that game once before, and I don’t intend to again!)

Keep the faith,

Stan R. Mitchell

‘Afghan Storm’ makes must read list for 2015 at The REAL Book Spy

I was pumped to see “Afghan Storm” made the list of must-read books for 2015 at The REAL Book Spy! (Link here.)

It’s really stunning to see my name alongside a list that includes names such as Tom Clancy, Vince Flynn, Nelson DeMille, Brad Meltzer, Daniel Silva, Brad Taylor, Ben Coes, and several other big-time names! (In fact, I am one of the few on the list who isn’t a New York Times Best-Selling author.)

Thanks, as always, for all of your all’s support. Especially the core group of you all who I jokingly refer to as Mitchell’s Militia. Your encouragement and help has been tremendous!

Hope everyone has a great Christmas! (And if you’re chasing your own dream, try to carve a couple minutes out during your time off in the coming days!)

Keep the faith,

Stan R. Mitchell

About meStan R. Mitchell writes some of the most action-packed, fast-moving gunfighter novels around. Tired of slow-paced, investigative novels that take 50 pages to excite you? Look no further! Stan is the best-selling author of 5 novels in 3 different time periods. He’s also a prior infantry Marine with Combat Action Ribbon, and a former journalist who spent ten years in the newspaper business, learning how to hook the reader, cut out the filler, and just tell the story. In short, Stan is knowledgeable, he’s fast, and his books will blow you away. Don’t forget to subscribe for email alerts to keep up with his latest works.

I don’t rate to be on this list

I was floored today when one of Audible’s staff alerted me that I had been “selected to be part of the Audible’s ‘Fall Books Preview’ — a promotion that highlights soon-to-be-released books our Editors are most excited for.”

Only twenty books were promoted with cover images, and that list of twenty included Stephen King, John Grisham, James Patterson, Karin Slaughter, Lee Child, Vince Flynn, Tom Clancy, Janet Evanovich, David Baldacci, and Michael Connelly. Oh, and Stan R. Mitchell.

Are you kidding me?! lol

Wow. Just wow.

Here are the images exactly as they’re highlighted. (I’m correctly placed on the last row!)

New Stand-Alone Books

The Bazaar of Bad Dreams: Stories (

UNABRIDGED) by Stephen King Narrated by To Be Announced Rogue Lawyer (

UNABRIDGED) by John Grisham Narrated by Mark Deakins

The Murder House (

UNABRIDGED) by James Patterson, David Ellis Narrated by Therese Plummer, Jay Snyder Pretty Girls (

UNABRIDGED) by Karin Slaughter Narrated by Kathleen Early

Here’s the link to the landing page, which looks even more impressive than what I’ve displayed above because the book covers are four wide instead of two. The Audible employee said the fall promo would be used on the Audible homepage, their targeted email list, facebook page, twitter, and other forms of outreach.

I’m still a little too stunned to say more, but I wanted to thank each and every one of my fans and friends who took a chance on me and have supported me with your reviews and word of mouth when my name most certainly wasn’t making lists such as this.

If I’m ever famous, I’m going to find a way to thank my early supporters who stood by my side when there was nothing to gain by doing so!

Oh, and while I’m at it, let me hit you with a few quick other updates.

First, Afghan Storm should be done in October. (For those that don’t know, this is the third book in the Nick Woods series.)

Second, I’m making pretty good progress on my second Little Man book, and have much of it outlined.

Third, I’ve started a new detective/police series that I think will blow you guys away. : )

I know I’m probably dreaming, but the members of Mitchell’s Militia who have been here from the beginning know that I’m crazy ambitious, and it’s my honest-to-goodness, crazy goal to have the second Little Man book and the new detective/police book done by the end of the year.

Keep the faith,

Stan R. Mitchell

About me: I write military action books similar to Vince Flynn, Stephen Hunter, and Tom Clancy. I’m also a prior USMC Sgt with Combat Action Ribbon, and a guy who spent 10+ years writing every day in the newspaper business — 9 of them with a newspaper that I started. Please consider subscribing for email alerts — I mostly post about things that either motivate or inspire you.
